comfort women - taiwan

colonial rule of taiwan by japanese empire began in 1895 after sino-japanese war (1894).  during the asia-pacific war between 1931 and 1945 peoples in taiwan were forcibly mobilized as labor forces and recruited for various kinds of military services. for this reason many women in taiwan were also enslaved as “comfort women” like in other parts of asia where japan colonized and occupied with its military troops.  survivors I photographed in taiwan spoke very fluent japanese and through that I experienced “assimiliation” by colonial rules also.  wounds by deprivation of culturse is not able to be healed briefly along with those given through enslavement against women.
